Site usage guidelines

You no longer need an appointment to visit the site. Please read the information below to help keep the site safe and running smoothly.

Opening hours

Wednesday to Sunday. Please check opening times for any Bank Holidays.

  • Morning: 9am – 12 noon, gates close at 11:50am
  • Afternoon:
    • 1 April – 31 October: 1pm – 6pm, gates close at 5:50pm
    • 1 November – 31 March: 1pm – 4pm, gates close at 3:50pm

Note: The site closes briefly around 10:30am and 2:30pm each day for approximately 15 minutes to enable us to compact the skips safely. These times may vary during busy periods.

The site may also close with no notice if the weather makes it unsafe for us to operate.

Vehicle access and permits

You need a waste permit if you are using:

  • a van
  • a car with sign writing
  • a minibus
  • a trailer

No commercial vehicles or vans with sign writing are permitted to use the site. We may, however, be able to accommodate commercial vehicles in our waste transfer station. Please contact us to discuss this. Charges will apply.

On arrival

  • stop at the site office for assistance and to declare any chargeable waste
  • staff will check your photographic ID and proof of address

We will be undertaking address checks to make sure that visitors are residents of Hartlepool. If you cannot provide these, you will be unable to dispose of your waste and will be asked to leave the site.

Chargeable waste

  • asbestos: £7.20 per bag
  • tyres: £3.20 per tyre

DIY waste – free disposal, limits apply

You can dispose of a limited amount of waste created by your own DIY projects for free, but there are restrictions on size and amounts that can be brought in and the number of visits you can make each week.

You can bring one load per week of DIY waste, either:

  • one item no larger than 2000mm x 750mm x 700mm
  • up to 100 litres of waste (e.g. two 50-litre bags)

Accepted items include:

  • hardcore, bricks, rubble and tarmac, including plasterboard and gypsum items, slate, stone, soil, clay, turf, gravel and pebbles
  • concrete, including breeze blocks, paving slabs, lintels, mortar and rendering, mixed or powdered cement or cement board
  • glass, including shower screens, plate and sheet glass, tiles, furniture shelving, tabletops
  • pottery and ceramics, including baths, toilets, bidets, shower trays, sinks
  • sand, including sharp sand, play pit sand and sand from sandbags used as flood protection

There will be a charge for all items in the list that exceed the limit as below (per 25kg bag/sheet/item):

  • soil £3
  • hardcore, rubble, ceramics £3
  • plate glass £3
  • plasterboard £6

We will not accept bags of mixed waste.

Please note we are only able to accept card payments.

Unless authorised, it is an offence to deposit waste arising from a business or trade. Any vehicle believed to be presenting waste arising from a commercial activity will not be allowed to tip.
