Notice of intention needs to be given a minimum of 28 days prior to the ceremony date. Although notice can be given 1 year prior to the ceremony we advise that couples wait until 3 months prior to their arranged ceremony date before giving notice to allow for late changes to the ceremony date and / or venue.
Couples who are having their ceremony outside of the United Kingdom should seek advice from their ceremony coordinator.
Marriage and civil partnership ceremonies can take place with a maximum of 15 people in attendance. This number includes the couple, witnesses and guests, but those working, such as the registrars, photographer and venue staff are not included. Please note that social distancing requirements may mean that the number a venue can hold is less than the legal limit of 15 attendees..
The current Government guidance on marriage and civil partnership ceremonies can be viewed at www.gov.uk
The key steps identified in the roadmap are below; the dates shown are subject to the four tests outlined in the roadmap being met at each step.
- Step 3: No earlier than 17 May – Legal limit of 30 attendees
- Step 4: No earlier than 21 June – No legal limit on attendees (subject to the outcome of the scientific Events Research Programme)
The number allowed to attend includes the couple, witnesses and guests, but those working, such as the registrars and venue staff are not included. Please note that social distancing requirements may mean that the number a venue can hold is less than the legal limit in force at the time of the ceremony.
