Can Hartlepool Borough Council carry out a DBS check for me?

Yes. Hartlepool Borough Council can carry out DBS checks for our own staff and for other organisations who register with us.

How to arrange a DBS check

To start your DBS application:

  • Contact the Council on 01429 284005
  • You’ll receive an email link to complete the online application
  • You’ll need to present your ID documents for verification

Information required before applying

Please provide:

  • Your full name and home address
  • Contact telephone number
  • Job title
  • Line manager’s name
  • Whether the role is paid or voluntary (Opens in new tab)
  • Whether you’ll be working with children, vulnerable adults, or both

What ID documents do I need?

After completing your online application, book an appointment using the booking link. You’ll need to bring:

  • Valid ID documents (see acceptable ID list)
  • Admitted Body Authorisation form – This form is completed by the Manager of your organisation (not applicable for Taxi Drivers)
  • Payment / proof of payment - you will be informed of the charge when you call us prior to your visit

How to make payment

Payment can be made by cash or card during your appointment.

After you apply

DBS checks usually take around two weeks but may take up to six weeks. You can track your application online via the DBS tracking service. (Opens in new tab)

Once completed, the DBS will send you a certificate. You must show this to your manager to confirm your suitability for the role.
