Hypnotism – public performance permit
You must hold a permit from us to stage a public performance of hypnotism for entertainment purposes, whether live or broadcast.
When a permit is not required
You do not need a permit if:
- the hypnotism is for scientific demonstration or research
- you are only hypnotising yourself
Additional conditions
Depending on the venue and type of performance, you may also need:
- a theatre or entertainment licence
- public liability insurance, if the venue’s insurance does not cover your performance
- to include the following statement on all posters, advertisements, and programmes:
“Volunteers, who must be aged 18 or older, can refuse at any point to continue taking part in the performance.”
Your permit will outline the exact conditions you must follow.
