Over 1,000 schoolchildren from across Hartlepool have attended a multi-agency event to learn how to stay safe.
Crucial Crew, organised by Hartlepool Borough Council, took place at Hartlepool Power Station.
A total of 1,096 Year 6 pupils from 27 schools attended 18 sessions spread over two weeks, with workshops covering topics such as road safety, cyber-crime, electricity safety, puncture wound first aid, water safety and the dangers of vaping.
Supporting organisations included host EDF Energy, teams from Hartlepool Borough Council, Cleveland Police, Northern Power Grid, St John’s Ambulance (with funding from the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence - CURV) and Cleveland Fire Brigade.
Councillor Melanie Morley, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council's Children's Services Committee with pupils from Eldon Grove Academy.
Councillor Melanie Morley, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Children’s Services Committee, attended and said: “Crucial Crew has been running for many years, but it remains as relevant as ever.
“Safeguarding our children is a top priority for the Council and giving them the knowledge and skills to keep themselves safe on a day-to-day basis is a key element of that. It is important that they can identify potentially dangerous situations and react appropriately.
“To have more than 1,000 pupils pass through this event in just two weeks is a tremendous achievement, and I would like to thank everyone who played a part in making it such a success.
“In particular, I would like to express my gratitude to EDF Energy which runs Hartlepool Power Station, for providing us with a venue every year.”
