With just over three weeks to go until Christmas, Hartlepool residents are being urged to make a difference this festive season by shopping locally and supporting the town’s independent businesses.
Councillor Pamela Hargreaves, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, has issued a heartfelt appeal to shoppers as the UK prepares to celebrate Small Business Saturday on 6th December.
She said: “My message is simple, this Christmas, choose local first, whether you’re shopping in-store or online. Hartlepool is full of brilliant independent businesses that bring creativity, character and community to our town. When we support them, we’re not just helping those businesses thrive – we’re investing in jobs, dreams and the future of Hartlepool. Every purchase becomes a vote for a stronger local economy and a town we can all be proud of.”
Shopping locally offers a host of benefits:
- A stronger local economy: Every pound spent locally stays in the community far more than money spent with national chains.
- Unique gifts: Independent retailers often stock bespoke, locally made items – perfect for those looking for something special this Christmas.
- Healthier high streets: Supporting local shops helps keep our town centres thriving.
- Environmental impact: Shorter travel distances mean a smaller carbon footprint.
Hartlepool Borough Council is also making it easier than ever to shop local by offering free parking on the next three Saturdays (6, 13 and 20 December) in all council car parks and on-street pay-and-display bays in Hartlepool town centre and Seaton Carew.
