Delivery of the caddies started on Friday 30 January and the first food waste collections from these properties will be on Thursday 5 February. All residents need to do is put out their large caddie alongside their standard refuse/recycling bin by 7.30am on their usual collection day.
Food waste collections began in Hartlepool in November last year with an initial trial involving 49 streets in the Rossmere area. This latest phase is the sixth expansion of the initiative.
Councils in England must collect food waste from all homes in their area on a weekly basis from April 2026 following changes to the law. This is part of the Government’s plan to improve recycling rates and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Funding for the new caddies and specialist vehicles required for the collection of food waste has been provided by the Government so this initiative comes at no cost to Hartlepool residents.
