Schoolchildren in Hartlepool are being offered the chance to improve their cycling skills at two free half-term holiday courses.
Hartlepool Borough Council has joined forces with The Cycle Partnership and the Bikeability Trust to stage the training sessions for children aged 7-11 between 23 and 26 February. There’s a range of times for parents/carers to choose from when booking children on either of the courses.
One course is a one-hour Learn 2 Ride session during which participants will be guided by qualified cycling instructors to build their confidence with the aim of having them pedalling by the end of the session.

The other course is a Bikeability Level 1 session, lasting 11/2 hours, for children who can already ride a bike on two wheels independently without help. They will be shown how to check their bike is fit for use, how to ride while looking behind and riding one-handed.

All sessions will take place at the Elephant Rock events area on the Headland promenade behind the Heugh Battery Museum.
All participating children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Ideally, they should also have their own bike and helmet, although with notice both can be provided. Please confirm when booking.
In addition, the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans) will be on site offering a free Dr Bike service from 9.30am-12pm on Wednesday 25 February. Local people will be able to drop in - no appointment is required – for a free bike check.
