COVID-19 is still a threat – don’t be complacent

A fresh appeal has been issued by Hartlepool Borough Council for people to take precautions to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 ahead of the weekend and anticipated warm weather.

While officials say they want residents and visitors to enjoy themselves, they are stressing that everyone has a responsibility to follow the rules on physical distancing/face coverings and practise good personal hygiene to ensure their actions do not contribute to a resurgence of the virus.

Acting Director of Public Health Craig Blundred said: “COVID-19 still poses a very serious threat and it is important that we do not become complacent.

“As we head into a weekend with predicted high temperatures and you are perhaps planning to head to the beach or other open spaces – it’s as important as ever that we all take precautions and encourage our family and friends to do the same.

“Most people have been and continue to be supportive of the rules and we thank them for that, but they must not let their guard down.

“Please continue to keep your distance from people not in your own household (two metres wherever possible), practise good hygiene measures - including washing your hands regularly - and, of course, wear a face covering when you are out at the shops and in other enclosed public spaces. These are all simple measures but very effective!

Parents are also being urged to ensure they know where their children are, and to impress upon them the importance of following physical distancing rules.

  • Given the warm weather that is forecast, we would urge people to take steps to protect their health by wearing sunscreen and ensuring that they keep themselves well hydrated.
