Don’t drop your guard against Coronavirus

With a number of other parts of the North-East seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases, people in Hartlepool are once again being urged not take any risks.

Councillor Shane Moore, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “People in Hartlepool have been doing really well in staying COVID-safe and I’d like once again to thank them for that.

“Nevertheless, we saw a small rise in the number of Coronavirus cases in the town last week and that rise has carried on into this week.

“We can’t afford that trend to continue – we don’t want to end up facing the prospect of a local lockdown.

“Each and every one of us can’t afford to drop our guard for even a minute, so please follow the safety rules, stay alert and don’t take any chances.”

To keep yourself – and Hartlepool – safe:

  • Wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds
  • Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth in enclosed public spaces including in shops, indoor venues and on public transport
  • Keep your distance – two metres wherever possible – from people you don’t live with or who are not in your ‘bubble’
  • If you’re out for a meal or a drink, follow the safety arrangements which the restaurants and pubs have put in place
  • If you are feeling unwell, get a test and self-isolate at home for at least ten days

Denise McGuckin, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Managing Director, said: “These are all simple steps but they have such a big effect in beating the Coronavirus, so we all need to keep following them all of the time and not be tempted to ease off.

“Businesses are also doing a great job of fighting back against the Coronavirus but they too need to stay vigilant at all times and ensure they have all the safety measures in place to maintain social distancing and keep customers and staff safe.”
