Join us to make it a summer to remember for our most in-need young people

Schools, voluntary and community groups and businesses in Hartlepool are being invited to help build on the success of a new project to provide healthy food and stimulating activities to children and young people in the town over the school holidays.

Hartlepool Holiday Fun is led by Hartlepool Borough Council using Government funding and is aimed at children who receive benefits-related free school meals, but all school-age children can take part in the activity element of the programme.

The project was a great success when it was launched for Easter, and now organisations and businesses are being invited to come together to make it even bigger and better for the summer holidays.

Groups taking part will receive funding to provide free holiday activities and nutritious meals for eligible children and young people for at least four hours per day and four days per week over a four week period.

Organisations wanting to take part should complete an application form which is available – together with further information – at www.hartlepool.gov.uk/hartlepool-holiday-fun

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 5pm on Friday 4th June.

Sally Robinson, the Council’s Director of Children’s and Joint Commissioning Services, said: “School holidays can be a time of particular pressure and stress for some families because of increased costs such as food and childcare and reduced incomes.

“Organisations taking part in Hartlepool Holiday Fun play a vital role in helping ensure that children and young people in our most vulnerable families don’t go hungry and all our children can enjoy exciting, fun activities which keep them stimulated and support their learning and development.

“We got off to a cracking start over Easter and are now looking for schools, businesses and voluntary and community groups to join us to make the summer holidays even better.”
