CCTV network investment set to boost community safety

A major investment in CCTV to modernise, expand and strengthen coverage across Hartlepool is set to boost community safety.

Funded through the Pride in Place Impact Fund and in partnership with the Hartlepool Board, the upgrades will deliver a more reliable, flexible and responsive CCTV system designed to protect residents and tackle local issues head‑on.

As part of the improvements, Hartlepool Borough Council will replace ageing CCTV equipment to ensure the system remains robust, dependable, and capable of supporting the town’s long‑term community safety ambitions.

In addition, three new mobile CCTV units and two advanced ANPR cameras have been purchased, powerful new tools that will enable the Council to respond quickly and effectively to issues such as fly‑tipping, anti-social behaviour and other community concerns.

These state‑of‑the‑art mobile units can be deployed across the borough using data-led intelligence.

Councillor Pamela Hargreaves, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: “This major investment in CCTV is a real step change for community safety in Hartlepool. Residents have told us clearly that tackling anti-social behaviour, environmental crime and other community safety issues is their top priority — and we’ve listened. These new cameras will help protect the places where we live, work and spend time together, and this investment shows that when residents speak up, real change can follow.

“By expanding and modernising our CCTV network, we’re giving our teams the tools they need to clamp down on the issues that matter most to local people, helping to make our neighbourhoods cleaner, safer and more welcoming for everyone.”

The CCTV upgrades are supported by the Pride in Place Impact Fund, part of the Government’s wider Pride in Place Strategy. Hartlepool is receiving £750,000 from the fund in the current financial year, and this will be followed by a further £750,000 in 2026/27.

This investment sits alongside the wider ambitions of the Hartlepool Board, which leads the Pride in Place programme and comprises residents, businesses, community organisations, strategic partners and others with a strong connection to the borough. The Hartlepool Board is progressing a bold long‑term plan to invest £20 million over the next ten years into the borough as part of the Pride in Place Regeneration Plan (2026–2036). Developed directly with input from more than 1,400 residents during last summer’s consultation, the plan places safety and security as the top community priority—reflecting what matters most to people living in Hartlepool.
