The roll-out of weekly food waste collections in Hartlepool is continuing, with the service being expanded to homes in the villages of Hart, Elwick and Dalton Piercy.
Households are receiving their food waste caddies this week, and the first collections will take place on Friday, 22 May.
This latest roll-out comes as statistics show that since weekly collections began in the borough in November last year just over 400 tonnes of food waste have been collected.
Kieran Bostock, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Director of Neighbourhoods and Regulatory Services, said: “It really is fantastic to see so many food waste caddies being put out by residents, and with over 400 tonnes of food waste recycled to date they are helping to make a real difference in terms of protecting the environment.
“I would like to thank them for supporting the initiative and also those households still waiting to receive the service for their patience. We are progressing the roll-out of the service as quickly as possible, and more residents will be able to recycle their food waste easily and effectively in coming weeks.”
Each home is given two caddies, a small one for use in the kitchen and a larger one for outside into which the contents of the smaller caddies should be emptied.
Residents should present their large caddies alongside their standard refuse/recycling bins on their usual collection day. Different vehicles are used to empty caddies and standard bins, so both should be put out by 7.30am to ensure collection.
