Hartlepool Borough Council has teamed up with Bikeability Trust and The Cycle Partnership Ltd to offer a series of free cycling camps for local schoolchildren during the summer holidays.
The sessions will take place at the Elephant Rock events space, behind the Heugh Battery Museum on the Headland, giving young riders the chance to build confidence, learn new skills and have fun on two wheels.
Two Learn 2 Ride camps are to be held for children in school years three-six who are still using stabilisers or who are ready to take the next step towards riding independently. These will take place on Monday 4 August and Tuesday 5 August.
One-hour sessions will run throughout each day at:
- 10am-11am
- 11.15am-12.15pm
- 1pm-2pm
- 2.15pm-3.15pm
Places are limited to just six children per session. Only one booking per child can be accepted.

A Bikeability Level 1 with Obstacle Course Camp for children in school years four-six who can already ride a bike, will take place on Wednesday 6 August.
Participants will have the opportunity to sharpen their cycling skills and earn their Bikeability Level 1 badge before tackling a obstacle course made up of a series of fun challenges.
There will be two sessions, each with 12 places available, at:
- 10am-12pm
- 12.30pm-2.30pm
Again, only one booking per child will be accepted.

The camps form part of ongoing efforts to encourage more Hartlepool children to enjoy the benefits of cycling while developing confidence, independence and essential road safety skills. Led by fully qualified instructors, all of the sessions are designed to help young cyclists develop their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.
All children attending the camps must be accompanied by an adult.
With places expected to fill quickly, families are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
