Stay Alert This Summer

Published: 24 August 2026

As people head out to enjoy festivals, major events, holidays and leisure activities over the summer months, they are being urged to remain vigilant and report anything that concerns them.

Large gatherings and busy public spaces can be attractive targets for terrorists, making public awareness an important part of keeping communities safe. The Council is supporting Counter Terrorism Policing's Summer Vigilance Campaign, which encourages everyone to stay alert while enjoying the season's events and activities.

Remain vigilant

Event organisers, venues, transport hubs and businesses are being encouraged to make clear and consistent vigilance messaging a key part of their planning. Promoting the campaign and adopting security-minded communications can provide an additional layer of protective security, helping to deter hostile activity and increase public awareness.

The Council's backing of the campaign reflects its ongoing commitment to the Government's Prevent programme, which aims to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. By working together and reporting concerns, residents and organisations can play an important role in helping to keep public spaces safe this summer.
