Hartlepool Borough Council has strengthened its commitment to boosting recycling rates across the borough with the appointment of Emma Stonehouse.
She has joined the authority as Engagement Officer (Waste and Recycling) and is playing a leading role in encouraging residents to correctly recycle more of their waste.
Passionate about protecting the environment and helping people make positive changes, she is working directly with residents, community groups and schools to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and reducing waste.
Her role involves providing practical advice, sharing information, tackling misconceptions and helping households understand how they can make a real difference through their everyday recycling habits.
Speaking ahead of Recycle Week (14-20 September), Emma said: "I have a passion for anything green and environmental and I want to make a difference. I want to get the information out there and help people understand why recycling is so important.
"Come wind, rain or shine, I'll be out in the community helping people recycle correctly and doing my best to make sure Hartlepool is topping the charts when it comes to recycling.
"I'll be sharing information and facts, as well as helping to dispel some of the myths around recycling that can sometimes cause confusion.”

Emma’s role involves her visiting local schools to engage with pupils and help inspire the next generation to develop environmentally-friendly habits and a greater understanding of the importance of recycling.
As well as promoting recycling, Emma is helping to educate residents about the impact of littering and fly-tipping on local communities and the environment. By sharing advice, raising awareness and encouraging responsible behaviour, she is providing vital support for the Council's efforts to keep Hartlepool clean, green and welcoming.
Councillor Councillor Amanda Napper, Chair of the Council's Neighbourhoods and Regulatory Services Committee, said: "We are delighted to welcome Emma to this important role. Increasing recycling rates and reducing waste are key priorities for the Council, so her enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for environmental issues make her the perfect person to help lead that effort.
"By working closely with residents, community groups and schools, Emma will help people understand how small changes can make a big difference, supporting our ambitions to create a cleaner, greener Hartlepool for everyone."
