Hartlepool Borough Council is inviting offers for Hartlepool Enterprise Centre (HEC) in Brougham Terrace, which is home to 47 business units offering a mix of office and workshop accommodation for start-ups and small businesses.
The Council is seeking to sell the centre as a going concern with a condition that it continues to operate as a business centre, protecting its key role in supporting Hartlepool’s business community.
The three-storey Victorian former school also has two detached ancillary blocks, a 51-space car park, meeting rooms which are available for hire, and a well-equipped kitchen serving a café with more than 20 covers.
There has been significant investment in the centre in recent years, including a comprehensive refurbishment that involved the creation of a large glazed entrance atrium, and the installation of 30 rooftop solar panels.

Councillor Rob Darby, Chair of the Council’s Housing, Growth and Communities Committee, said: “Hartlepool Enterprise Centre has an important role in providing flexible and accessible premises where new and small businesses can establish themselves and grow.
“We’re now looking for a buyer who recognises the potential of the centre and can build on what has already been achieved, while ensuring it continues to serve Hartlepool’s business community.
“With 47 business units, excellent facilities and significant investment already made in the building, this represents an exciting opportunity to take forward an established business centre in the heart of Hartlepool.”
Interested parties have until 12 noon on Friday 27 November to submit bids.
