Children and young people in Hartlepool aged up to 25 are being invited to showcase their imagination, talent and creativity by taking part in an exciting new competition.
Called 'Through Our Eyes' and run by Hartlepool Borough Council, the competition encourages young people to express what makes Hartlepool welcoming, inclusive and supportive through their own unique creative perspective.
Entries should explore one or more of the following themes: friendship, inclusion, community, kindness, diversity, learning, aspiration, belonging and hope, with participants free to interpret the themes in their own way.
Submissions can take any creative form, including artwork, poetry, creative writing, photography or another creative medium. There are no right or wrong ideas.
Awards will be presented to recognise and celebrate the creativity, originality and achievements of the young people taking part and selected entries will go on display.
Councillor Jim Lindridge, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council's Children's Services Committee, said: "Young people see the world in ways that can inspire and surprise us, and Through Our Eyes is a wonderful opportunity for them to share their creativity and tell their stories.
"We know there is a huge amount of artistic talent, imagination and originality among children and young people in Hartlepool, and I would encourage all of them to get involved.
"Whether through art, photography, poetry, writing or another medium, this competition is about celebrating young people's voices, showcasing their talents and recognising the unique perspectives they bring to our community.
"I am looking forward to seeing the finished entries and to helping celebrate the achievements of everyone who takes part."
Entries (including the young person’s name, age and school, the contact details of their appropriate adult and an optional short explanation of the work) should be submitted by Friday 23 October to inclusion@hartlepool.gov.uk or can be delivered to the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) in Brierton Lane during normal office hours.
