Free weekend town centre parking returns to Hartlepool in run-up to Christmas

Published: 30 October 2026

Free weekend parking will return to Hartlepool town centre ahead of Christmas, as Hartlepool Borough Council backs local retailers and shoppers during one of the busiest trading periods of the year.

Parking in a number of Hartlepool Borough Council-managed town centre car parks will be free of charge on weekends from Sunday 8 November until Sunday 20 December. The scheme aims to encourage more people to visit the town centre, support local businesses and make the most of Hartlepool's festive offer.

The return of free weekend parking will also coincide with Remembrance Sunday, making it easier for people, including our veterans, to attend the annual Remembrance Sunday Service in Victory Square on Sunday 8 November.

Whilst the Multi-Storey Car Park remains closed, free parking will be available at Basement Car Park, East Side Car Park, Waldon Street Car Park and West Side Car Park.

Councillor Dave Bruce, Leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: "While the Council continues to face significant financial challenges, we remain committed to supporting our local economy and helping our town centre to thrive.

"The return of free weekend parking is a practical way of encouraging more people to visit the town centre, particularly during the important Christmas trading period.

"We're backing our retailers this Christmas and I would encourage residents to take advantage of the scheme and support local businesses. By shopping locally, people can help support jobs, investment and the continued success of Hartlepool town centre."
