Before buying land or property, it’s important to carry out a Local Land Charges (LLC) search to check for any legal restrictions or obligations affecting the site.
How to submit a search
You can submit your search in the following ways:
Electronically
- via our own electronic service (contact us for access)
- through the National Land Information Service (NLIS)
By post
Send your completed forms (in duplicate), a location plan, and the correct fee to:

All search requests must include a clear plan showing the area to be searched.
Types of searches
- LLC1 – shows entries in the Local Land Charges Register (e.g. financial charges, planning obligations, listed buildings, legal agreements, tree preservation orders)
- CON29R – standard enquiries covering planning, highways, building control, and environmental health matters
