Ceremony in the Civic Suite

If you’re looking for a simple ceremony, we offer statutory marriage and civil partnership ceremonies in the Civic Suite at the Civic Centre.

What does a statutory ceremony include?

This is a short, legal ceremony that includes the wording required to make your marriage or civil partnership legally binding.

  • takes place in a meeting room at the Civic Suite, accessed via the civic centre main reception
  • no personalised vows, music or readings
  • a ring exchange can be included
  • a short time is provided for photographs at the end
  • the couple and both witnesses enter the room together

Who can attend?

  • only two guests may attend - they must act as your witnesses
  • no other guests, including children, are permitted

Witnesses must:

  • be aged 16 or over
  • understand and speak English (it does not need to be their first language)

You do not have to know your witnesses personally; or they can be relatives or friends. It is not possible for registration officers to act as witnesses, and witnesses cannot be provided for the couple.

When are ceremonies held?

  • Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings
  • Excludes Bank Holidays and Christmas week

How much does it cost?

  • £68.50 (full payment required at the time of booking)
  • £50 of this fee is non-refundable
