Our Road Safety and Sustainable Travel Team delivers a wide range of activities to promote safer and greener travel choices.

Our key areas of work

  • sustainable travel campaigns: advice and support to encourage walking, cycling, public transport use, and car sharing
  • cycle training: from beginner lessons to advanced instruction through the national Bikeability Programme for both children and adults
  • school crossing patrols: management of our School Crossing Patrol Service to ensure safe routes to school
  • child pedestrian training: road safety education for school children to build confidence and awareness
  • walking and cycling infrastructure: development of new routes, signage, and cycle parking to support active travel
  • driver training and assessment:
    • accident statistics analysis
    • driver refresher and continuous professional development (CPD) courses
    • Safe and fuel efficient driving (SAFED) training
    • Minibus training to test standard
