We look after more than 21,000 rainwater gullies across Hartlepool. These gullies are usually found at the side of roads or in the middle of back streets. We clean them regularly through both scheduled maintenance and ad-hoc visits.
We also respond to surface water runoff from private fields when it creates a hazard for road users.
Any locations where such flooding is constantly re-occurring is discussed at monthly flood risk meetings involving engineering and highway maintenance staff where planned scheme implementation or an alternative course of action is agreed.
To report a blocked gully complete our online form below:
We aim to clear blocked gullies within 3 working days, where possible.
Who is responsible?
We are not responsible for sewerage manholes or gullies. Responsibility depends on the location:
- on private property – the property owner is responsible
- in public areas – Northumbrian Water is responsible
