To apply, you must complete an in-year school transfer application form.
Before you submit your application
You must:
- complete a separate application for each child
- ensure all people with parental responsibility agree to the move
- provide supporting documents where required
We cannot guarantee a place at your preferred schools. This depends on availability.
Paper copies are available from the School Admissions Team.
Please phone: 01429 284368
Who should apply
You must complete an in-year school transfer application if:
- you are moving into Hartlepool and need a school place
- you already live in Hartlepool and want to move your child to another Hartlepool school
You can list up to three schools on your application. We strongly recommend listing all three, as some schools have very limited places.
Important information
- we can accept applications up to 20 school days before the place is needed
- you may be asked to provide proof of your address
- living in a catchment area does not guarantee a place
- places are offered only if there is space in the relevant year group
For September in-year places (excluding Reception and Year 7), applications open from the end of June. You can apply online using the Parent Portal from that time.
After you apply
Receiving the outcome of your application
You will receive a decision within 10 to 15 school days after your application has been processed.
- If a place is available at one of your preferred schools, you will receive an offer by email or letter
- If we cannot offer a place at your chosen schools and you live in Hartlepool but do not currently have a school place, we will offer a place at the nearest school with availability
Please note: Some year groups may be full when you apply, especially if you are moving house or requesting a transfer.
We cannot process applications for schools outside of Hartlepool. You must contact the relevant local authority for their in-year application process.
Appeal a school place decision
If your child is not offered a place at your preferred school, you have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel.
