You need a certificate of competence to operate a public weighbridge. This certificate is issued by our chief inspector for weights and measures.

What happens after you apply
There is no formal evaluation process set out in legislation. However, if you do not hear from us within the target completion period, tacit consent applies. This means you can assume your application has been approved.

If your application is refused, please contact us first. You can also appeal to the Office for Product Safety & Standards*.
*National Measurement and Regulation Office became part of Regulatory Delivery in March 2016. Since then Regulatory Delivery was replaced by Office for Product Safety and Standards.
