What is a Tree Preservation Order (TPO)?
A Tree Preservation Order (TPO) is made by us to protect specific trees or woodlands. It is illegal to cut down, top or lop, uproot, wilfully damage or destroy any tree protected by a TPO without our written permission.
Doing so is a criminal offence and may lead to prosecution.
See our List of Tree Preservation Orders
Trees in conservation areas
Trees in conservation areas are also protected. If you want to carry out any work on a tree in a conservation area, you must give us six weeks’ notice before starting.
This allows us to assess whether the tree should be protected by a TPO.
