When will my collections start?

Collections begin from 22 April 2025. It may take up to 4 weeks to reach all areas, so your first collection date will be confirmed when you sign up.

How will you know I’ve subscribed?

You’ll receive a bin sticker to show you’ve subscribed. Stickers are:

  • non-transferable
  • needed for your bin to be emptied

What can I put in my garden waste bin?

Only loose, compostable garden waste may be placed in the garden waste bin. The garden waste must not be placed in plastic bags or any other sort of packaging as this affects the composting process and reduces the quality of the compost.

Yes please - grass cuttings, weeds and dead plants, twigs and small branches, hedge clippings, cut flowers and house plants, shrub prunings, leaves and the contents of hanging baskets.

No thanks - Anything not included on the ‘Yes Please’ list above, which includes, but is not limited to, general waste, food waste, plastic or plastic packaging, vegetable peelings, egg shells, tea bags and coffee grinds, large items of garden waste (tree trunks, soil and rubble), dead animals, pet bedding, animal excrement and nappies.

All bins should be out at the designated collection point for 7.30am on your collection day. We reserve the right to cancel collections due to circumstances beyond our control such as severe weather.

Missed or problem collections

If your bin hasn’t been emptied:

  • check for a tag, it may be too heavy or contain the wrong items

Don’t want to subscribe?

If you choose not to sign up to the garden collection service, you will need to make alternative arrangements for your garden waste. You can:

  • take garden waste to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Burn Road for free. Limitations apply.
  • consider composting at home

Residents are encouraged to keep their brown bins in case they decide to take up the subscription at a later date, or to assist with home composting. If you decide to join the scheme at a later date and require a replacement bin then there will be a charge.
