Asbestos
To ensure safe and compliant disposal of asbestos, please follow the steps below:
1. Obtain council-issued asbestos bags
All asbestos must be wrapped using the specialist red and white asbestos bags provided by the Council.
Bags can be collected from the HWRC site Wednesday to Sunday, prior to your disposal booking.
2. Correct bagging procedure
- Place the asbestos material inside the white bag first.
- Then place the sealed white bag inside the red bag.
This double‑bagging method is mandatory for safe handling.
3. Bag size and weight limits
Each sealed asbestos bag must meet the following requirements:
- Maximum size: 100 cm x 15 cm
- Maximum weight: 25 kg
Only bags meeting these limits can be placed in the secure skip.
4. Fees
Each asbestos bag is charged at £7.20, payable by card only on arrival at the HWRC site.
If your asbestos item exceeds 100 cm x 15 cm, you must arrange disposal through a specialist licensed contractor. The HWRC cannot accept oversized materials.
Asbestos that is not correctly double‑bagged, or cannot fit into the supplied bags will be refused at the site.
Important information
- The site may close without notice during unsafe weather conditions.
- Depositing trade or business waste without authorisation is an offence.
- Vehicles believed to be carrying commercial waste will be refused entry.
