Adult Social Care charging policy

Self-funders

A person who has sufficient income and/or savings and assets to meet the full cost of their care and support is required to do so is designated as a self-funder. The Council will also treat a person as a self-funder it they choose not to disclose their financial information to enable a full financial assessment to take place.

Self-funders will be advised to seek care and support themselves and negotiate directly with their chosen care provider.  Information is available on Hartlepool Now regarding the support options available.

Self-funders who require residential or nursing care and own their own home may be eligible for assistance through a Deferred Payment Agreement.  Further information can be found in Section 15.
