Where are Middlegate Room and Constable Room located?
The Middlegate Room and Constable Room are in the Borough Hall, Middlegate, Hartlepool, TS24 0JD.
Please make sure your invitations say Borough Hall, not register office, as they are different locations.
- the Middlegate Room is on the first floor. The lift is currently out of order. Access is by stairs only. If you or any guests cannot use stairs, your ceremony will take place in the Constable Room.
- the Constable Room is on the ground floor and fully accessible via a ramp from the Middlegate entrance.
How long will we be there?
Your booking with us is 50 minutes in total. This time includes:
- 20 minutes for guests to arrive and settle
- 20 minutes for the ceremony and signing
- 10 minutes for leaving and taking photos
When can guests enter the room?
Guests can enter 20 minutes before the ceremony. If they arrive earlier, they should wait in the atrium. All guests should be seated at least 10 minutes before the ceremony starts.
Room capacity
Each room seats up to 34 guests.
- babies and toddlers (up to the age of three) can sit on a lap and don’t need a seat
- older children need their own seat
- The couple, photographers and videographers are not included in the 34

Can we view the room?
Yes. You can:

Can we change the layout?
It is not possible to change the layout of the room. We can remove chairs to acommodate space for wheelchairs if needed.
Can we decorate the room?
Flower arrangements, photo frames and other decoration can be brought into the room as long as they are easy to carry and remove and no assembly is required.
It is not possible to use chair covers and/or sashes. Lit candles cannot be used, although you can bring faux or unlit candles.
Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring decorations.
Can we use confetti, petals or bubbles?
Yes, but only outside the building.
- confetti must be biodegradable (e.g. rice paper or dried petals)
- no metallic or plastic confetti
- no confetti, petals or bubbles inside the building
Can we bring pets?
Only trained assistance animals are allowed.
Can we stream the ceremony?
Yes. You can use Zoom, FaceTime or similar, but:
- there is no WiFi in the rooms
- streaming must use mobile data
- bring your own device or arrange a professional
