Kerbside collections - terms of use
We provide an alternate weekly collection service for general waste and recycling. Garden waste collections are seasonal and available by subscription.
What you can expect
Each household is entitled to:
- 1 x 240-litre green bin for general waste
- 1 x 240-litre grey bin for recycling
If you subscribe to the garden waste service, you’ll receive:
- 1 x 240-litre brown bin, collected every 4 weeks (8 collections per year)
Larger green bins are available upon request for households with 6 or more permanent residents or in cases where a resident has special circumstances such as a specific medical need. Larger grey bins can also be requested.
Collection days
- collections run Tuesday to Friday
- bank holiday Mondays do not affect collections, with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
- find your next collection date and opt to download your collection calendar on our Bin Collection Days page.
Presenting your bin
Residents are required to place bins at the collection location by 7.30am on the day of collection, but no earlier than 7pm the night before. Please return your bin as soon as possible after collection and always by the end of the day.
- Make sure bins are:
- not blocking driveways or pavements
- clearly visible, not behind walls, cars, or hedges
- not overfilled or too heavy
- closed with the lid flat
Only bins provided by us or those that meet our standards will be emptied.
Missed collections
If your bin hasn’t been collected by 4pm on your scheduled collection day please report it within 3 working days:
If the bin is found to be missed, we’ll return within 5 working days. Any reports made after 2 working days will be handled on your next scheduled collection.
In the case of a dispute of a missed bin, the vehicle trackers and camera footage will be checked, and you will be informed of the outcome.
Note: We do not collect side waste or return for bins presented late or incorrectly.
Do not report a bin as missed if:
- the bin was not presented before 7.30am on the collection day
- the bin is too heavy or contains incorrect materials
- the bin was not placed on the pavement area, or as near as possible to the collection location
- the incorrect bin was placed out for collection
- the bin was blocked by excess waste or side waste
- the crews have not yet serviced your street
- it is earlier than 4pm on your collection day
In the event of part of or a whole street not being serviced due to parked cars, access issues or roadworks, residents are asked to return their bins to the property and present them the following day for 7:30 am.
Using your bins correctly
To check what you can and can’t put in each bin, visit our Recycling Checklist
We will not return to empty grey recycling bins or brown garden waste bins if they contain the wrong items. You’ll need to remove the contamination before your next scheduled collection.
To report a problem with your bin:
Excess waste
We only collect waste that fits inside your bin with the lid closed. Any extra bags or loose waste left beside the bin will not be collected.
If you have extra waste, you can:
- take it to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Burn Road.
- store any extra clean recycling until your next collection day
- ask your neighbours if they have any space in their bins and gain their consent to place excess waste in their bins
- arrange a one off non-routiine collection of up to 3 bins at an extra cost
