NDORS - National Speed Awareness Course

National Speed Awareness Course

The National Speed Awareness Course gives eligible drivers the opportunity to attend a re-education session instead of receiving penalty points and a fine for a low-level speeding offence.

Who can attend?

You may be offered this course if:

  • you were caught speeding within a certain threshold.
  • you have not attended a similar course in the last 3 years.
  • you meet the eligibility criteria set by the referring police force.

What the course involves

  • duration: 3 hours
  • format: Available as both virtual and in-person sessions
  • venues: Locations across County Durham and Cleveland
  • fee: £79 - fees may vary in other areas

The course is delivered by Department for Transport-approved driving instructors and road safety trainers. It includes a mix of informative presentations and group discussions.

What happens after the course?

  • if you attend and complete the course successfully, no further action will be taken for that offence.
  • our completion will be recorded on a national database.
  • if you commit another speeding offence within 3 years, you will not be offered another course.

If you accept the course but fail to attend or complete it, your case will be referred back to the police for further action.
