Hartlepool’s young people and residents are being invited to a celebration like no other as the newly-transformed Rossmere Youth Centre throws open its doors for an exciting official reopening event.

The centre, which is on Rossmere Way and serves young people aged 13-19, has been completely modernised by Hartlepool Borough Council using a £1.27m grant it bid for from the Government’s Youth Investment Fund – and now it’s time to show the town what a 21st-century youth centre really looks like.

The event, taking place on Monday 10 November from 6.30pm to 9pm, promises a packed programme of fun, food and fantastic activities – and everyone is welcome!

As well as showcasing the new facilities, the event will challenge outdated stereotypes about youth clubs being “just pool and table tennis.” Visitors will get a real taste of the wide range of opportunities on offer – from arts and crafts and sports to work on the issues that matter to young people, consultation, and life skills development.

There’ll be:

  • Live DJ sets to get the party started
  • Tasty refreshments and samples from a brand-new cookbook created by the young people
  • Creative arts and crafts sessions
  • A Bucking Bronco for the brave!
  • Tours of the new facilities, including:
    • A fully refurbished sports hall
    • A stylish new coffee bar and social space
    • A dedicated training kitchen for cooking and budgeting skills
    • A brand-new emotional wellbeing space for one-to-one support

The Council’s Youth Services team worked closely with young people to develop the successful funding bid, ensuring the improvements reflect what matters most to them.

Councillor Melanie Morley, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Children’s Services Committee, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for people to see just how much youth centres have evolved, reflecting our commitment to ensuring our young people get the best possible support and encouragement as they grow into young adults.

“Rossmere Youth Centre is now a vibrant, welcoming space where they can learn, grow and thrive – and we want the whole community to come and see it for themselves.

“It’s a fantastic moment for Hartlepool’s young people. They played a key role in shaping the vision for the new centre, and the result is a marvellous, inspiring place that truly reflects their needs and aspirations.”
