Borough Hall lift repair
The lift to the Middlegate Room is currently out of order. Whilst repairs are ongoing, access is via stairs from the Borough Hall atrium.
If you or any of your guests are unable to use the stairs, the ceremony will take place in the Constable Room on the ground floor.
Borough Hall refurbishment
The Borough Hall is scheduled to close for refurbishment. We are only accepting bookings for dates up to 24 December 2025.

About the Middlegate Room
The Middlegate Room is Hartlepool register office’s main ceremony room, located on the first floor of the Borough Hall, at the heart of the historic Headland.
It features:
- large windows with views over Hartlepool Bay
- seating for up to 34 guests (no standing room)
- nearby photo locations: tea gardens, Town Wall, and the beach
- fully accessible via lift from the Borough Hall atrium (currently out of service)
Seating
- Babies and small children under the age of 3 may sit on a parent or guardian’s lap and do not need to have a seat allocated to them.

Constable Room



Ceremony in the Constable Room
The Constable Room is Hartlepool register office’s alternative ceremony space, located on the ground floor of the Borough Hall.
It is used when the Middlegate Room is inaccessible, such as during lift maintenance. The room is fully accessible via a ramp from the Borough Hall entrance.
Nearby parking is available, including a car park and on-street spaces.
About the Constable Room

- seating for up to 34 adults or older children
- no standing room available
- babies and small children under the age of 3 may sit on a parent or guardian’s lap and do not require a seat
