Consultation on the admission arrangements for Rift House Primary School

Consultation: Proposal to reduce the published admission number (PAN) (Academic Year 2027 - 2028)

Hartlepool Council are the admissions authority for community schools in the town. We are consulting on the admission arrangements for Rift House Primary School.

Summary of Proposal

The current published admission number (PAN) for Rift House Primary School is 36.  The proposal is to reduce the PAN to 30 for the 2027/28 academic year due to the increasing number of children with complex special educational needs and disabilities, school space has been redeveloped which has reduced the ability to split Early Years and KS1 classes.

With limited space in specialist provision across the town the school feel that this is necessary to support the needs of their families and community.

Additionally, there is a duty to comply with the Government’s Infant Class Size Legislation where infant classes (those where the majority of children will reach the age of 5, 6 or 7 during the school year) must not contain more than 30 pupils with a single school teacher.  The reduction in PAN is the only proposed change to the current admission arrangements.

Consultation

In accordance with the School Admissions Code 2021, when changes are proposed to admission arrangements, it must carry out a consultation.  Please find link below for the proposed arrangements.
