Do I meet the extended rights criteria?
The Education and Inspections Act 2006 also extends local authority duties and powers to those from low-income families, this is called 'extended rights'.
These rights extend free transport to those who are entitled to free school meals and include transport to:
- children aged 11 to 16 years, who attend one of their three nearest suitable schools provided it is more than 2 miles but not more than 6 miles from their home; or
- children aged 11 to 16 years, who attend a school that is more than 2 but not more than 15 miles from their home that their parents have chosen on the grounds of their religion or belief if, having regard to that religion or belief, there is no suitable school nearer to their home.
