A national framework supporting health professionals to embed prevention into practice. It includes e-learning, motivational interviewing, and referral pathways for physical activity.

Public Health England’s evidence-based approach to embed physical activity into daily life

Sport England Initiatives

  • Local Delivery Pilots – place-based interventions to reduce inactivity.
  • Moving Healthcare and Professionals Programme – training for clinicians to promote physical activity.
  • Change4Life & Better Health Campaigns – national behaviour change campaigns targeting children and adults.

North East

North East Obesity Forum (NEOF)

A multidisciplinary network promoting research, collaboration, and action on obesity. Hosts webinars and workshops on topics like food environments and mental health.

Healthy Weight & Treating Obesity Community of Practice (Boost)

Led by the North East & North Cumbria ICS, focuses on system-wide collaboration, poverty-proofing, and psychological aspects of obesity. Includes mapping of services and bi-monthly meetings.

Integrated Care Strategy (NENC ICS)

Aims to help more adults and children achieve a healthy weight through coordinated services and community engagement.

Hartlepool

Healthy Weight Strategy (2021-2025)

  • Universal Prevention: Improve access to healthy food, green spaces, and active travel infrastructure.
  • Targeted Prevention: Social marketing, early intervention, and community training.
  • Service Provision: Integrated pathways for weight management, school-based health education.

Working Well – Health

Focuses on reducing obesity and increasing physical activity. Highlights disparities in weight and activity levels across wards.

The Highlight Health Hub

Working with Sport England, the Highlight Health Hub has been built to create an opportunity for residents to think about their health and will provide a wide range of resources for the opportunity to adopt a healthier lifestyle and improve physical activity levels.

Join the Movement

Join the Movement is a community initiative aimed at improving physical and mental health through increased physical activity. It is a network of local and regional partners looking to: address health inequalities; improve social outcomes; and promote physical and mental wellbeing.
