The Department for Education's education statistics holds a dataset for Schools, pupils and their characteristics which includes Young Carers. The following information is a summary of key findings from this information when viewed in 2025.

The percentage of pupils known to be a young carer in Hartlepool has increased from 0.62% to 1.33% from the 2022/23 academic year to 2024/25 academic year. This is likely an underestimate due to low identification rates of young carers. Totals include state-funded nursery, primary, secondary, alternative provision (AP) schools and special schools, and non-maintained special schools. Does not include independent schools nor general hospital schools.

When broken down by year group for the 2024/25 academic year the percentage of pupils known to be a young carer in Hartlepool is as follows:

From 2022/23 (academic year) to 2024/25 (academic year) the greatest increase of pupils known to be a young carer was in Year 9 increasing from 0.17% to 2.09%. Followed by Year 10 (1.45% increase) and Year 4 (1.3% increase).

For the 2024/25 academic year the total number of pupils in Hartlepool known to be a young carer is higher than the North East (0.7%) and England (0.77%). For all areas there has been an increase since 2022/23.
