Becoming an employer

Statutory payments

You may need to pay your personal assistant (PA) even when they are not at work. This includes situations such as:

  • if they are off sick and entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)
  • if they are on maternity or paternity leave and entitled to Statutory Maternity or Paternity Pay

Find out more about statutory payments on the Skills for Care website

If your PA is off work and receiving statutory payments, you may need to arrange for another PA to support you during their absence.
