What needs are unmet?
Strategic Issue 1
There is a need to anticipate the future demand of CVD in our ageing population. Early detection and treatment of CVD alongside the management of co-morbidities is needed.
Strategic Issue 2
There are high rates of admissions for coronary heart disease and stroke and high rates of risk factors for CVD suggest a need for early prevention to reduce rates of CVD and stroke and intervention to improve outcomes in those with CVD in order to reduce admissions.
Strategic Issue 3
Whilst NHS Health Check uptake is improving it remains low overall (10.9% in 2024/25). There is a need to improve uptake particularly in at-risk groups such as those with severe mental illness and in areas of high deprivation.
