Crime JSNA

Summary

Strategic Issue 1

Rising drug-related crime is driving wider offending patterns, including theft, violence, and anti-social behaviour.

What needs to be done

Commission a multi-agency drug intervention strategy, including expanded treatment, outreach, and early intervention services.

Strategic Issue 2

High levels of anti-social behaviour and low-level crime are contributing to a reduced sense of safety and community confidence.

What needs to be done

Develop and fund place-based community safety initiatives in hotspot areas, including youth diversion, visible policing, and environmental improvements.

Strategic Issue 3

Serious crime—including violent offences, organised crime, and weapon-related incidents—is rising and disproportionately affecting deprived communities. This contributes to fear, trauma, and long-term harm, particularly among young people and vulnerable groups.

What needs to be done

Develop a Serious Crime Prevention and Response Strategy, including:

  • Multi-agency taskforce to tackle organised crime and weapon-related violence
  • Youth violence prevention programmes in schools and communities
  • Trauma-informed support services for victims of serious crime
  • Intelligence-led policing and hotspot interventions
