In-year school place appeals
You can appeal if:
- you applied to change your child’s school during the school year
- your child was refused a place
Before you appeal
You should read advice for parents and guardians on school admission appeals - GOV.UK
Please note that you can only appeal where you have made an application for a school place and have been refused a place into the relevant year group.
You may appeal for each school at which a place has been refused, and each appeal will be considered at a separate hearing. You will need to complete a separate appeal application form for each school and each child.
After submitting an in-year appeal
You will be invited to attend an appeal hearing within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged. If you decide not to attend, your appeal will be considered based on your written submission.
The hearing provides you with an opportunity to:
- explain in person the reasons why you are appealing
- ask questions about the admission authority's case
- answer any questions the panel or the admission authority may have
