Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance is displayed in the Remembrance Room to provide a lasting record and dignified memorial.

A book of remembrance displayed in a wooden case with a glass top, illuminated by an overhead light. The case is placed against a wall, and there are two large floral arrangements on either side of the case.

About the book

The book is in two volumes, each covering six months of the year, January to June and July to December. While one volume is on display, the other is being updated.

The vellum cover bears the borough coat of arms in full colour, finished with hand-tooling in gold leaf and semi-precious stones.

Two pages are allocated to each day of the year. The book is displayed open at the appropriate day in a protective glass case so that entries may be seen on each anniversary of the date of death.

Memorial entries

The memorial entries are carefully executed by highly skilled artists and inscribed under the date of death. The first line consists of the surname and first names only, together with any title or decoration. The remaining lines are for any wording desired but should include the year of death.

Viewing entries

Entries in the book can be seen without appointment on the anniversary of the date of death. Entries may also be viewed on other dates by appointment.
