Withholding of allowances

All allowances will be withheld where a Member:

  • ceases to be a Member of the Authority;
  • is otherwise unable (except for cases of illness as notified to the Authority) to discharge the duties of a Councillor; and the Chief Executive, in consultation with the Director of Finance, IT and Digital is of the opinion that the withholding of an allowance is reasonable;
  • In the event of withholding of an allowance, the Chief Executive shall report to the next available ordinary meeting of Council his/her decision and the reasons for that determination.  The Member affected by such a decision may request a review before the Council’s Audit and Governance Committee or a Sub-Committee of that Committee, with 14 days of that determination.
