Cemeteries and Crematorium
About Us
Hartlepool Crematorium (opened in 1954) is located in the grounds of Stranton Grange Cemetery, and provides a tranquil and restful place amongst the memorial gardens and beautiful trees. The cemetery opened in May 1912 and now covers over 30 acres. Our beautiful grounds offer the perfect place for a quiet moment of remembrance and reflection. At Stranton Cemetery and Crematorium there are two chapels that can be used individually or as one. They are linked by a live feed screen and audio system and we also provide webcast with live streaming for those friends and family unable to make the service. Traditional wooden pew seating for up to 200 mourners is provided and both rooms are accessible by wheelchair. Car parking and toilets are available on site.
Accessing the site
Funeral Directors have been provided with a pass to access the site via the barrier on Tanfield Road. If a funeral cortege is in close procession to the hearse they will also gain access. If you are not part of the cortege, you will need to press the large button on the panel next to the barrier. This will be answered by cemetery staff who will open the barrier for you. Please be aware that sometimes it may take a little while to answer the call, but if after a reasonable time you receive no response please re-press the button. When leaving a funeral the same procedure applies. If you are not attending a funeral please use the Brierton Lane entrance to access the site.
