Street Lighting and Traffic Signs
Hartlepool Borough Council is responsible for the maintenance of 12,500 street lights and 950 traffic signs.
The street lighting team ensure that all new installations are designed to current standards, undertake electrical inspections and testing, install Christmas trees and decorations and install street lighting columns for developers.
Funding for the maintenance of existing street lighting comes from the mainstream Council revenue budget, but funding for installation of new street lighting has also been obtained from organisations such as Government Office North East (GONE) for the Local Transport Plan (LTP), New Deal for Communities (NDC) for improvements in the central area of town, North Hartlepool Partnership Single Regeneration Budget (North SRB) for improvements in the north area of the town and Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF). This funding contributes to providing better and more efficient lighting for the community.

All energy used for the running of street lights and illuminated traffic signs is green electricity.
