Hartlepool Youth Council

Hartlepool Youth Council incorporate Hartlepool Youth Parliament and is a representative body of young people aged between 13-18 (up to 25 with additional needs), who work closely with the local authority to advise, have an opinion on and make positive change for children and young people in the town.  We meet every Monday 4:30pm to 6:30pm, so please feel free to come along and give us your views / ideas on what you would like us to help you with.  

Terms of Reference for Hartlepool Youth Council

Hartlepool Youth Council is attended by young people from a wide range of backgrounds and ages from across Hartlepool.  Meeting on a weekly basis, the youth council aims to bring positive change for young people through consultations, advice and partnerships with elected members and local authority departments.  Formal meetings with strategic decision-makers and elected members occur regularly.

Remit/broad scope

  • Propose group work for year ahead, in line with agendas set by UK Youth Parliament and British Youth Council.
  • To provide a voice for young people.
  • To attend meeting with current Hartlepool Elected Members and Heads of local authority departments to give the perspective of the town's young people.
  • To assist to make changes to help Hartlepool become a better place for its young people to thrive.
  • Work with Grant Givers to assist funding for local youth projects and organisations.

Frequency of Meeting

Youth Council meet each Monday at 4:30pm to 6:00pm, usually at the Centre for Independent Living, Burbank Street, Hartlepool, TS24 7NY.  Formal meetings are held in the Council Chambers at the Civic Centre.

Membership

There are a maximum of 3 seats per school/educational establishment, with other seats allocated to less represented groups such as cultural, LGBT, Children in Care etc.  If you have ideas on working towards a better future for young people, please contact the Standards, Engagement and Development Team on 01429 284292 or casdevelopmentteam@hartlepool.gov.uk
