Educational Psychology Team
The Hartlepool Educational Psychology Team applies psychology to promote inclusion and improve outcomes for children and young people, particularly those with special or additional educational needs.
The team works in partnership with schools and families to support the learning, emotional and social development of children and young people. It seeks to work in a collaborative, strengths-based way, aiming to:
- promote a holistic and broad based understanding of children’s development, recognising the unique nature of every child and their context
- maximise learning outcomes for children and young people
- promote their pro-social behaviour and emotional well-being
- enhance the knowledge, skills and confidence of staff in schools and other settings
- help parents and carers to support the educational, social and emotional development of their children.
The Educational Psychology Team works in a range of ways to meet the needs of individuals, groups and organisations including:
- Consultation and advice
- Psychological assessment
- Psychological intervention
- Training and development work
- Research and evaluation.
Much of the team’s work relates to the key themes of the SEND Code of Practice. Most early intervention work is commissioned through service level agreements with schools and settings. In addition, the team has a statutory duty to provide psychological advice to the Local Authority as part of an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment.
