Health in Hartlepool
Healthy Living
In August 2014, the Health and Wellbeing board identified child obesity as a priority and work started on developing a Childhood Obesity Strategy. Following a town wide obesity conference in February 2015 the Healthy Weight Strategy was developed.
Key successes to date include:
- Policy developed as part of the local plan which imposes restrictions on planning applications for Hot Food Takeaways
- Sustainable transport campaigns and programmes are available and actively promoted across the Borough
- A weaning programme has been established and obesity training has been provided to a broad range of staff
We now recognise that we need to work differently to ensure that we reduce the prevalence of obesity in the town. We are now:
- Reviewing the Healthy Weight Strategy with the intention of updating it so it reflects the requirements of the Whole Systems approach.
- Adopting the Whole Systems approach to obesity prevention with the aim of decreasing the number of overweight and obese people in the town
