Business Rates Freedom of Information Requests
Hartlepool Borough Council receives a number of requests of a similar nature for information which relates to Business Rate accounts (non-domestic properties). To address these requests we are now publishing specific information on:
•Empty Properties
•Mandatory and Discretionary Relief
•Full list of non-domestic properties within Hartlepool with their Rateable Value.
We will publish this information on a half yearly basis; we will not provide individual responses to requests during the year for similar information but will re-direct requests to our published list of reports held on this webpage.
Limitations on Data
•Ratepayers names and correspondence addresses are only provided for Limited Companies and Government Bodies and not for individuals (sole traders, partnerships etc). Data Protection prevents the publication of individual names.
•The ratepayer is the person liable to pay the charge. In many cases this is a leaseholder and not an owner. It is not possible to identify the owners from our records.
•Account references are not included as these are personal to the account, and are used to ensure that a ratepayer is actually the account holder when they contact the Council.
•The correspondence address is the last contact address on the Business Rates records.
Empty Properties
This is a snapshot of data as at 22 June 2016, and lists non-domestic properties that are in receipt of an empty property relief or exemption.
The start date of the current exemption/relief is not necessarily the date the property became unoccupied. An alternative exemption/relief may have been awarded prior to the start date of the current relief/exemption confirmed on the report.
